River Rafting Information

Everything you need for a great time!

We provide, or have readily available, everything you need for a safe and fun time on the river.

All trips include:

  • Round-trip transportation from Jackson, WY*
  • Coast Guard-approved life jackets (required for each passenger).
  • Safety helmets during high water conditions.
  • Paddling jackets and pants are provided for whitewater trips

*Group or individual pick-up from your place of lodging can be arranged with ample prior notice. We can also drop you off back at the West Table Boat Ramp, south of Hoback Junction, if you originally met up with us there.

Get wet. Stay warm.

A bit of cooler weather doesn't have to dampen your trip. We carry a large rental inventory of wetsuits, wetsuit jackets, booties, and/or gloves; in a wide range of sizes.

Wetsuits may be required during high water or severe weather conditions. All garments are professionally cleaned between every use.

What to bring:

For warmer days, we suggest comfortable clothing such as nylon shorts, lightweight pants and soft-soled shoes. You might also want a wide-brimmed hat or baseball cap, sunglasses with eye glass retainer and of course sunscreen.

For colder temperatures, bring along a jacket or fleece sweater for the bus trip back from the river.

Forget something? No worries. All your river needs can be found in our retail and rental departments.

Meeting Places

You'll meet at the famous Mad River "Wedge" located just 2 miles south of Town Square in Jackson Hole - 1255 South Highway 89. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to departure time.

If your travel takes you through the Snake River Canyon you may wish to consider meeting at West Table Creek. Drive 22 miles south from Jackson Hole, or 10 miles northeast from Alpine Junction and meet in the left corner of the Commercial Outfitter's parking lot approximately 15 minutes after the listed departure time for the Jackson Hole location. Advance reservations are required.

Kids on the River!

We pay special attention to children’s needs, outfitting them in custom paddling jackets and pants. Kids are welcome on all trips; however, they must be at least six years old for whitewater trips.

Special Accommodations

River trips should be enjoyed by all, including those with disabilities. To discuss special arrangements, call at least 72 hours in advance and we'll be happy to assist with any arrangements you may need.

Mad River's Boats.

Self-bailing rafts are guaranteed, so you don’t have to bail and can have more fun paddling. We use Ride Aire™ inflatables, the leaders in raft design and innovation. Non-paddling seats are available.

Wear the Adventure

River running imparts its own style to clothing - call it super-relaxed-adventure-casual. Stop by the Mad River store for a full line of river clothing and outdoor accessories.

Weather & River Conditions

Of course, in the mountains, weather and runoff conditions can vary. For safety reasons, trips may be rescheduled or canceled on short notice due to unseasonably cold or inclement conditions.

Your Responsibility

We make every effort to run safe, fun trips, including instruction before and during each trip. It is your responsibility to follow these instructions, as you’ll be helping to paddle.

Some water levels require strenuous participation. It is your responsibility to evaluate your level of fitness. Seek medical advice if you do not exercise regularly or are overweight. Like any outdoor activity engaged in a wilderness environment, the raft trips and other activities we offer, involve inherent risks, which could lead to injury, property damage or death. Our guests must be willing to accept these risks for the service we provide.
